GENERAL SUMMARY/ MAIN PURPOSES OF THE POSITION
Provide expert analysis and insight on assigned companies and sectors to support the construction, ongoing management, and marketing of equity portfolios (funds and models).
PRINCIPLE DUTIES OF THE ROLE
Analysis
- Analyse financial and public information relevant to assigned companies and sectors to develop, review, and monitor valuation assumptions and investment recommendations.
- Monitor relevant global economic trends and investment themes.
- Continuously monitor valuations and price changes of focus/allocated companies.
- Attend company results presentations (including webcasts), site visits and research presentations, as required.
- Assist the Investment Committee with investment views, content and relevant research for decision making purposes.
Portfolio Management
- Present, motivate and debate the investment merits for focus/allocated companies and sectors at investment discussions and committees, to facilitate investment decisions In equity portfolios and validate changes to equity portfolios.
- Participate in all team discussions regarding the construction and maintenance of equity portfolios.
- Provide assistance with monitoring equity portfolios, particularly with regards to focus/allocated companies and sectors.
- Provide assistance with reporting potential portfolio Investment risks and risk events to the relevant equity investment team.
Communication
- Produce and maintain regular investment commentary (verbal and written); incorporating company announcements and/or external events or presentations, global macro-economic analysis and relative positioning to portfolio and fund managers.
- Regularly discuss all investment views of the team with portfolio managers.
- Accompany and assist portfolio managers in client interactions, as required.
- Assist with creating investment focused collateral and marketing material relevant to the equity portfolios, as required for regular investor communications (Investor letters, articles, website).
- Participate in daily morning meeting discussions. Provide market and company commentary relevant to specific companies; and relative to the valuation expectations and investment recommendations previously taken into consideration.
- Liaise with research partners to arrange internal and external presentations and manage the process accordingly.
- Attend investor meetings, as required.
DESCRIPTION OF TASKS
- All tasks will have a primary focus of global equity.
- Participate in and contribute towards the development, research and idea generation required.
- Participate with global equity research, investment selection and portfolio management.
- Support the broader investment team by contributing towards investment discussions, including the Investment Committee, as required.
- Assist with global equity portfolio related client queries, as required.
- Participate in regular interactions with existing investors, for the purpose of building and maintaining assets.
- Participate in the development and delivery of new business interactions, for the purpose of attracting assets to investment solutions appropriate for investors.
- Any other duties that may be required and are agreed upon with manager.
KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA’s)
Knowledge and qualifications
- Relevant finance-related tertiary degree (B. Com, B.BusSci). Honours and CFA an advantage.
- Financial markets, equity instruments, and capital markets dynamics
- Equity research methodologies and valuation approaches (e.g. DCF, multiples, relative valuation)
- Use and application of market data systems such as Bloomberg and FactSet
- Financial statements and accounting principles relevant to equity analysis
- Stockbroking and investment management environments (prior exposure advantageous)
- Regulatory and compliance considerations within financial services
- Research governance, data integrity, and confidentiality standards
- Sector specific knowledge (e.g. financials, resources, consumer, industrials)
- Macroeconomic indicators and their impact on equity markets
- Corporate actions, earnings cycles, and market announcements
- ESG considerations and their impact on equity valuations
Skills and experience
- Minimum of 2-4 years equity analyst experience.
- Advanced numerical and analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy
- High level of passion/ interest in stock markets.
- Strong computer skills - a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Strong written communication skills, particularly in drafting research reports and insights
- Verbal communication skills suitable for engaging colleagues, stakeholders, and clients confidently
- Data analysis and interpretation using financial databases and research tools
- Time management skills to meet deadlines and respond to adhoc requests
- Ability to prioritise workload effectively across multiple research deliverables
- Problem solving skills, including identifying inefficiencies and proposing improved processes
- Financial modelling and forecasting
- Investment thesis development and articulation
- Presentation skills for investment committees or client forums
- Advanced Excel and financial analysis tool proficiency
- Ability to synthesise complex data into clear, actionable insights
